Program Description

This is an integrated research pathway that MD/PhDs can apply for during their PL-1 year at UCSD. If accepted, the resident will be guaranteed a fellowship position at UCSD in whichever department he/she applied after completion of the Pediatrics Residency. This program is a total of 6 years in length (3 years of Pediatrics Residency/3 years of Subspecialty Fellowship). For those interested, this pathway allows for early integration of research into his/her residency. To this end, these residents are matched with mentors from their future Subspeciatly department and are allowed 5-9 months of research time during their PL-3 year. These residents are board eligible for Pediatrics by the end of their PL-3 year. [1]
