Program Description

The UAB Medicine Scholar’s Program was created to develop the next generation of physician scientists. The Program utilizes the ABIM Research Pathway to provide excellent clinical training in Internal Medicine followed by protected time for research during the subsequent fellowship years.  The UAB Department of Medicine provides an outstanding academic environment coupled with a strong emphasis on collegiality and collaboration.

The pathway offers an abbreviated residency (2 years), 1-2 years of clinical subspecialty training, and 3 years of research in a mentored environment.  The desired fellowship for the candidate will be guaranteed, contingent on the successful completion of the residency.  Individuals pursuing research in General Internal Medicine may choose to pursue research upon completion of 2 years of clinical IM training.
